Product Description

In a baghouse dust collector, dirty gas flows through tubular woven or felted filter bags that capture dust particles on their surface while clean gas passes through. The accumulated dust forms a filter cake that actually improves filtration efficiency, and is periodically dislodged by pulses of compressed air (pulse-jet cleaning) or reverse airflow, dropping into the collection hopper below.

Selecting the correct filter bag material is critical for cement plant operations. The gas stream from a cement kiln, raw mill, or coal mill varies dramatically in temperature, moisture content, and chemical composition (SO₂, NOₓ, acid gases, alkali vapors). A filter bag that performs well at 150°C in a raw mill may fail rapidly at 220°C in a kiln exhaust. LIMING's material selection guide below helps you choose the right media for your specific application.

All LIMING filter bags are manufactured with precision stitching, reinforced bottoms, and compatible collar styles (snap ring, flange, or ring cap) to match your specific baghouse tube sheet design. We produce bags for all major dust collector brands and can reverse-engineer from your existing used bags.

5 Filter Media Types 130-260°C Service Custom Dimensions Acid & Alkali Resistant

Filter Bag Materials & Selection Guide

Choosing the right filter media depends primarily on the continuous operating temperature and the chemical composition of the gas stream. Use this guide to match your application to the correct material:

Material Max Continuous Temp Max Surge Temp Chemical Resistance Best Application
Nomex (Aramid) 200°C 230°C Good acid resistance, poor alkali Raw mill, cement mill, cooler exhaust
PPS (Polyphenylene Sulfide) 190°C 210°C Excellent acid & alkali resistance Coal mill, kiln exhaust with high SO₂
P84 (Polyimide) 240°C 260°C Good acid resistance, moderate alkali Kiln exhaust, high-temperature filtration
PTFE (Teflon) 250°C 280°C Excellent acid, alkali & oxidation Aggressive gas, extreme temperature
Fiberglass 260°C 280°C Excellent acid, poor alkali (with coating) Kiln exhaust, high-temp continuous duty

Material Selection Quick Guide

  • Below 150°C: Polyester (for ambient or low-temp applications like some conveyor transfer points)
  • 150-200°C with moderate acid: Nomex — cost-effective for raw mill and cement mill exhaust
  • 150-190°C with high acid/SO₂: PPS — superior chemical resistance for coal mill and sulfur-rich exhaust
  • 200-240°C: P84 — high temperature with good filtration efficiency (irregular fiber cross-section)
  • 240-260°C continuous: PTFE or Fiberglass — for direct kiln exhaust bypassing heat exchanger
  • Extreme chemical aggression: PTFE — the ultimate chemical-resistant media for the harshest conditions

Filter Bag Lifespan Factors

Filter bag service life varies significantly based on operating conditions. Understanding the factors that affect lifespan helps optimize replacement scheduling and reduce total cost of ownership:

  • Operating temperature: Exceeding the maximum continuous temperature — even briefly — dramatically shortens bag life. Each 10°C over the rated temperature can halve the bag's lifespan.
  • Gas chemistry: Acid gases (SO₂, SO₃, HCl) and alkali vapors attack filter fibers over time. PPS and PTFE offer the best chemical resistance for aggressive gas streams.
  • Dust loading: Higher dust concentrations increase the cleaning frequency and mechanical stress on the bags. Proper pre-coating extends bag life.
  • Moisture and dew point: Condensation below the acid dew point causes dust to cake and blinding, requiring aggressive cleaning that damages fibers. Maintain gas temperature above dew point.
  • Pulse-jet cleaning pressure: Excessive compressed air pressure accelerates bag wear at the cleaning point. Standard 0.3-0.5 MPa is optimal for most applications.
  • Cage condition: Corroded or bent filter bag cages cause localized wear and premature bag failure. Always inspect cages when replacing bags.
