About the Jaw Crusher

The jaw crusher is a primary crushing machine that uses compressive force to break down large blocks of raw material. Two jaw plates — one fixed and one movable — form a V-shaped crushing chamber. As the movable jaw swings toward the fixed jaw, material is compressed, fractured, and reduced in size. When the jaw retracts, the crushed material discharges through the bottom opening by gravity.

In cement production lines, the jaw crusher is typically the first stage of the comminution process, reducing quarried limestone, marl, shale, and boulders to a manageable size for downstream secondary and tertiary crushers. LIMING Machinery manufactures both PE series (coarse primary crushing) and PEX series (fine/secondary crushing) jaw crushers, with over 20 models covering the full capacity range from small -scale plants to 10,000-TPD cement lines.

Built with high-strength cast-steel frames, premium manganese steel jaw plates, and oversized spherical roller bearings, LIMING jaw crushers deliver decades of reliable service in the most demanding quarry and cement-plant environments. The deep crushing chamber design ensures high reduction ratios, uniform discharge granularity, and minimal slabby product.

Types of Jaw Crushers

Jaw crushers are classified by their crushing-chamber motion mechanism and by their application. LIMING supplies both main motion types and both primary/fine series.

Double Toggle Jaw Crusher

Uses two toggles and a pitman to transmit crushing force. The movable jaw moves vertically as well as horizontally, producing a rubbing/rolling action that reduces wear and produces more uniform product. Suitable for hard, abrasive materials.

Single Toggle Jaw Crusher

Uses a single toggle and an eccentric shaft. The movable jaw performs an elliptical motion with both compressive and rubbing actions. Fewer moving parts, lighter weight, lower cost — the most common type in modern cement plants and quarries.

PE Series — Primary Crushing

Coarse crushing models with large feed openings (150×250 to 1500×1800). Accepts run-of-mine material directly from the quarry. Used as the first-stage crusher in cement plants, mining, and aggregate production.

PEX Series — Fine Crushing

Narrower discharge opening for secondary or fine crushing. Produces smaller, more uniform discharge (8-90mm). Often installed after a PE-series primary jaw crusher or as a standalone fine crusher for smaller operations.

How It Works

Working Principle of Jaw Crusher

The jaw crusher operates on the principle of compressive crushing. An electric motor drives the eccentric shaft via V-belts and a flywheel, causing the movable jaw to swing in a controlled elliptical motion against the fixed jaw. Here is the step-by-step process:

  1. Material feed: Raw material (limestone, ore, rock) is fed into the top of the V-shaped crushing chamber formed by the fixed jaw and movable jaw.
  2. Compression stroke: The eccentric shaft rotates, pushing the movable jaw toward the fixed jaw. Material trapped between the two jaw plates is subjected to high compressive force and fractures along its natural cleavage planes.
  3. Bending & impact: In addition to compression, the elliptical motion of the movable jaw creates a bending and rubbing action that further breaks down slabby or tough material, producing a more cubical product.
  4. Discharge stroke: As the movable jaw retracts, the crushing chamber volume increases. Material that has been reduced below the discharge opening size falls through by gravity, while larger fragments remain for the next compression cycle.
  5. Size adjustment: The discharge opening (closed-side setting) is adjusted using the wedge or hydraulic mechanism at the toggle plate, controlling the final product size without changing jaw plates.

Jaw Crusher FAQ

What is the price of a jaw crusher?
Jaw crusher prices vary widely depending on the model, capacity, and configuration. Small PE-150×250 models start from a few thousand USD, while large PE-1500×1800 models for high-tonnage cement plants can cost hundreds of thousands of dollars. LIMING Machinery offers competitive factory-direct pricing — contact us with your feed size, capacity, and material for a detailed quotation within 24 hours.
How long do jaw plates last?
Jaw plate service life depends on material hardness, feed size, feed rate, and operating hours. Typically, high-manganese steel (Mn13/Mn18) jaw plates last 3-6 months in normal limestone crushing at a cement plant. Harder ores (granite, basalt) may reduce life to 1-3 months. Using reversible plates, maintaining proper feed distribution, and avoiding tramp metal can significantly extend service life. LIMING supplies genuine replacement jaw plates and toggle plates.
What discharge size can the jaw crusher produce?
The discharge opening is adjustable. PE series (primary crushing) produces discharge of 10-400mm depending on the model. PEX series (fine crushing) produces a finer discharge of 8-90mm. The closed-side setting is adjusted via a hydraulic or wedge mechanism without replacing parts — allowing quick changes to match downstream crusher or mill requirements.
What after-sales service does LIMING provide?
LIMING provides complete after-sales support: on-site installation guidance, commissioning, operator training, a 12-month warranty on the main frame, and lifelong technical support. We maintain a comprehensive spare-parts inventory — jaw plates, toggle plates, eccentric shafts, bearings, and flywheels — with fast global delivery to minimize downtime. Service engineers are available for remote troubleshooting and on-site visits.
