Forged steel grinding balls are produced from round bar stock of alloy steel (typically B2, B3, or B4 grade) that is heated, forged into spheres, and then heat-treated through quenching and tempering to achieve the target hardness and microstructure. Cast iron balls are produced by pouring molten high-chrome white iron into molds.
