Product Description

The kiln tyre — also known as the riding ring — is a massive steel ring that encircles the rotary kiln shell and rides on the support rollers. It transmits the entire weight of the rotating kiln (including shell, refractory lining, and material charge) to the support stations. Because the kiln rotates continuously at high temperature, the tyre must withstand enormous radial loads, thermal expansion stresses, and contact fatigue at the roller interface.

A poorly manufactured kiln tyre can lead to uneven shell movement, excessive roller wear, refractory damage, and ultimately catastrophic kiln failure. LIMING's kiln tyres are produced from high-grade forged alloy steel, precision-machined to exacting tolerances, and subjected to comprehensive non-destructive testing. Each riding ring is engineered to match your kiln's specific operating parameters — diameter, rotation speed, operating temperature, and load conditions.

We manufacture kiln tyres for all rotary kiln types used in cement production, lime calcination, activated carbon production, and mineral processing. Whether you need a replacement for an OEM kiln or a custom tyre for a modified installation, our engineering team can produce a riding ring that meets or exceeds the original specifications.

Materials

LIMING offers kiln tyres in three primary material grades, each selected based on the kiln's size, operating temperature, and load requirements:

Material Grade Tensile Strength (MPa) Yield Strength (MPa) Hardness (HB) Typical Application
ZG45 (Cast Carbon Steel) ≥570 ≥310 150-210 Small to medium rotary kilns, moderate temperature
ZG35CrMo (Alloy Steel) ≥590 ≥390 180-240 Medium to large kilns, elevated temperature service
ZG42CrMo (Chrome-Moly Alloy) ≥690 ≥490 200-270 Large cement kilns, heavy-duty high-temperature applications

For the most demanding applications — large-diameter cement kilns operating above 1200°C — we recommend ZG42CrMo for its superior creep resistance, hardenability, and toughness under thermal cycling. The chrome-molybdenum alloy provides excellent wear resistance at the roller contact surface and maintains mechanical properties at elevated temperatures.

Manufacturing Process

From raw steel ingot to finished, inspected riding ring — every step controlled under our ISO 9001 quality system.

1

Casting

Steel melted and poured into custom sand molds designed for the specific tyre geometry.

2

Forging

Ring rolling or open-die forging refines grain structure and enhances mechanical properties.

3

Heat Treatment

Quench and temper or normalize to achieve target hardness, strength, and toughness.

4

Machining

CNC turning and grinding to exact bore, OD, and face width tolerances.

5

Inspection

UT, MT, hardness testing, and dimensional CMM verification before shipment.

Quality Control & Inspection

Every kiln tyre produced by LIMING undergoes a multi-stage quality control protocol that begins with raw material verification and concludes with final dimensional inspection. Our metallurgical laboratory performs chemical analysis (spectrometer) and mechanical property testing (tensile, impact, hardness) on every heat.

Non-destructive testing is mandatory for all kiln tyres regardless of size:

Full mill test certificates (MTC) including chemical composition, mechanical properties, and NDT reports are provided with every shipment.
