From Coal Ash to Pozzolanic Binder

A fly ash processing plant collects, classifies, dries, and stores the ash captured from coal-fired power plants — turning a waste stream into a high-value supplementary cementitious material.

Fly ash is the fine particulate captured from the flue gas of coal-fired power plants by electrostatic precipitators or bag filters. Chemically it is a pozzolan — a siliceous and aluminous material that, in the presence of moisture, reacts chemically with calcium hydroxide to form cementitious compounds. This makes fly ash one of the most valuable and widely used supplementary cementitious materials (SCMs) in modern concrete.

Raw fly ash, however, is inconsistent — variable fineness, unburned carbon (measured as loss-on-ignition, LOI), and moisture all affect its performance in concrete. A LIMING fly ash processing plant treats this raw ash through collection, classification, drying, and controlled storage to produce a uniform, specification-grade pozzolan that reliably replaces 15-40% of Portland cement in concrete and blended cement.

Two main ash classes are processed: Class F (low-calcium, from bituminous coal — strongly pozzolanic) and Class C (higher-calcium, from lignite — self-cementing). Plant capacities range from 10 t/h for a small power-station-side unit to 200 t/h for a large-scale regional processing terminal.
