Special production line for white and decorative cement — from ultra-pure raw materials through high-temperature clinkering, iron-free grinding, and rapid quenching. Consistent whiteness above 88% for architectural, decorative, and premium concrete applications.
Overview
White cement is a specialized variant of Portland cement distinguished by its pure white color. It is produced through meticulous control of raw materials, higher kiln temperatures, specialized cooling, and contamination-free grinding.
White cement is fundamentally a Portland cement manufactured to exacting color standards. Unlike standard gray OPC, which derives its color from iron compounds in the raw materials, white cement requires raw materials with extremely low iron oxide (Fe2O3) content — typically below 0.4% — and manganese oxide below 0.03%. The primary raw materials are high-purity limestone (CaCO3 >96%) and kaolin or china clay with minimal metallic oxide impurities.
Beyond raw material purity, three additional process factors distinguish white cement manufacture: higher burning temperatures (1550-1600°C vs 1450°C for OPC), rapid water quenching or reducing-atmosphere cooling to preserve whiteness, and iron-free finish grinding using ceramic or high-chrome cast iron grinding media and mill liners. Any iron picked up during grinding from steel-on-steel contact will tint the finished cement gray or greenish — unacceptable for a premium white product.
LIMING provides complete white cement production lines with oil-fired or natural gas kilns (avoiding coal ash contamination), water-quench grate coolers, and ceramic-lined grinding circuits. Plant capacities typically range from 200 to 2,000 TPD, reflecting the smaller but higher-value market for white cement.
Process Comparison
White cement production demands fundamentally different choices in raw materials, fuel, process temperatures, and grinding media.
Production Process
Six precisely controlled stages — from high-purity raw material selection through to whiteness-verified finished product.
Special Equipment
White cement production demands specialized equipment not found in standard OPC plants, with a focus on contamination avoidance and precise thermal control.
Natural gas or oil-fired kiln with multi-channel burner designed for clean, ash-free combustion at 1550-1600°C burning temperature. Coal firing is avoided because coal ash introduces iron and color contamination.
Rapid water-quench system or reducing-atmosphere grate cooler that immediately cools clinker from 1600°C to below 200°C, preventing iron oxidation and preserving the white color of the clinker phases.
Finish grinding mill with ceramic (alumina) bricks as mill lining and high-density alumina or zirconia ceramic balls as grinding media. Eliminates iron pickup from steel-on-steel abrasion.
Alternative to ceramic lining: high-chrome white iron (25-30% Cr) cast liners and grinding balls with substantially lower iron wear rate than standard steel — acceptable for non-premium white grades.
In-line magnetic separation on cement transport and packing lines removes any stray iron particles that may have entered the product stream, acting as a final color-protection step.
Laboratory spectrophotometer measuring Hunter L, a, b color coordinates against a calibrated MgO reference. Integrated into the QC protocol for every shift and every silo batch.
