How LIMING Machinery designed and delivered a high-activity lime kiln for the demanding industrial minerals sector.

Project Background

A leading industrial minerals processing company in Shandong Province required a new rotary lime kiln to meet growing demand for high-activity quicklime used in steelmaking, chemical processing, and environmental applications. LIMING Machinery was selected to design, manufacture, and install a complete 600 TPD lime calcination system tailored to the client's specific raw material characteristics and product quality requirements.

The project demanded stringent product quality specifications, with the lime requiring activity levels consistently above 360ml (as measured by the standard titration method). This necessitated precise process control and high-quality refractory and kiln design.

Process Design & Engineering

The system is centered around a Φ3.6×55m lime rotary kiln specifically designed for high-quality lime calcination. Limestone feed enters through a vertical preheater that preheats the stone using hot kiln exhaust gases, significantly reducing fuel consumption. After calcination at controlled temperatures, the hot lime passes through a vertical cooler where combustion air is preheated before entering the kiln, further improving thermal efficiency.

The kiln is equipped with a multi-channel burner capable of firing natural gas, coal, or oil, providing fuel flexibility. Advanced process instrumentation monitors kiln temperature profiles, ensuring optimal calcination conditions for consistently high product activity (>360ml).

Results & Performance

The 600 TPD lime kiln has been in stable operation since commissioning, consistently producing lime with activity levels exceeding 360ml. Specific fuel consumption is approximately 15% lower than comparable conventional lime kilns, and the vertical cooler contributes to high thermal efficiency and low residual CO₂ in the product. The client has reported excellent product quality consistency across all operating conditions.
